Monday June 8
Lil is meeting Harold today so I asked her if she could ask him if I could use his Internet today when he has time. I have to check on my email to see if I have any customers.
Jayne and I took a walk down the road in the other direction that we did when we first arrived. We went down a long gravel road between the farms and came out to the street again. Right before we did we came to a restaurant and Bed & Breakfast. We stoped in for a cup of coffee. I noticed the prices were higher than in Cyprus. A plain baked potatoe was £4.50! We didn't eat anything there. Right next to this establishment is a rail road crossing that was also a stop for passengers. There was a gate we had to open and close on each side.
Making a left, we went to an old church. In the yard was the church graveyard. We saw a date on one where the guy died in 1788 and he was 83 years old. Other graves were in the 1700s to mid 1800s. I took some pictures there.
Then we walked further to the mail road that went through a collection of old stone houses. There was one store there that we stoped in. Jayne and I both bought a magazine. Then we walked back.
Shortly after we got back, Lil arrived.
Lil told me that it's ok with Harold to come by his place after 4pm to go on the computer. Harold, I was told is in his late 80s. He looks good for his age, and he still drives a car. His wife, however, is in a nursing home, which is where Lil and him went today.
About 4.30pm I went to Harold’s house to go on the Internet. His son was there and i was introduced to him. He left shortly after I arrived.
My friend, Derek died.
I got an email that came from Derek and it was sent by his friend, John Branan. He told me that Derek died yesterday. I was so sad to hear this. He was a good friend and i always enjoyed him company. He and his wife were the life of the party. He will be missed very much.
I wrote back to John to pass the letter I wrote on to Angela of our condolences.
The email was sent on June 4th, so when he said yesterday, it would have been June 3rd that Derek died. He had cancer in his throat, that is why he couldn’t keep food down, but he was never told he had cancer but an ulcer in his stomach.
Had we gone there after spending a short time in England, which was our original plans, we would have been there before he died.
I wrote in the email that we would be in Cyprus sometime in the summer, and if there is anything we could do to let us know.
Derek would have been 80 years old in August.
They were planning to move to a house that is on one floor, so I guess Angela will still want to move.
Matt wrote me one email saying if the number I gave him was right. He said that the gardener ‘will not be doing that lawn anymore.’ Now, that is strange coming from him. Anyhow, there was no other news about clients.
I check my other email and found no one wrote to me about the property.
After I left, I realized I should have check my third email as Clive would have probably have written to tell me the news about Derek. I wonder if he and Mary plan to make a special trip to Cyprus to go to Derek’s funeral. I’ll have to check that email address the next time I’m on the Internet.
