Sunday May 24
I awoke about 5.30am today, just like i did yesterday. Then I got up about 6.30am. The reason for this is because the sun is up already. Being in the far north during the summer the days are longer. I’m the kind of person that gets up with the sun. The last time this happened to me was when i was in Russia. Since then I lived in Cyprus and Ecuador. I Cyprus the summer days are a little longer and in Ecuador it’s the same all year round (sunrise about 6am and sunset about 6pm) because they are at the equator.
In England right now, it starts getting light about 4.30am. Actually, you can see some before then but at 4.30 it’s lighter. At 5.30am it’s really light.
I like the long days, but the flip side of it is the very short days during the winter. Since I’m here in the late spring, the longer days are nice.
When I lived in Moscow, the summer days were even longer. I remember the first time I woke up it was about 4.00am. I couldn’t believe it was light. At night the light lasted well past 11.00pm, you could still see the dark night sky near midnight.
