A Sick Baby

Wednesday January 21

Our worker came over. He said that he needs a hernia operation next month. I asked if he would be ok working, as I don’t want him to strain himself, and he said yes. Work is just about finished on the home, so any other work that I’ll have him do would be the weeding.

About 8.30pm Matt called to say that his baby son has diarria and vomiting. He said his wife said that she needs an herb that grows here and if it would be ok for her to come by tomorrow about 10-10.30am. I said yes.

I wonder if the problem could be that the baby has too much sugar. Last Sunday when they were here, Jayne saw that Amparo put four teaspoons of brown sugar in water for the baby. Four teaspoons! That is too much for an adult. For an adult that would be like 40 teaspoons – compared to body weight. I told Matt on the phone not to give sugar to the baby and he said the he doesn’t get any. But I wonder if he knows what Amparo gives the baby.

Thursday January 22

While I was in the shower Matt called. Jayne said that Amparo will be over with a driver about 9am. When she arrived a guest came with her. This is some guy who is vacationing here and is from Canada.

Juan the gardener came over at 8.30am. He showed me his new lawnmower. I’ll need him to come every week so the grass looks nice for people who might be interested in buying the house.

This guy, whom I didn’t get his name, is a real character. He did most of the talking and talked about his life. He said that he eats raw food. He’s quite energetic and lifts weights and said he can hop on one foot for 100 steps. He said that he’s 84 years old.

Since he likes Ecuador I told him that the house if for sale, but he wasn’t interested in buying in.

Amparo picked what we call lemon grass – the roots and all. She’ll make a tea for the baby when she gets home.

Amparo was readying to leave but this guy was talking and talking. Anyhow, I told him that Amparo was ready to leave.

After the gardener was ready to leave, he asked if was selling the home and I said yes. He asked how much I wanted and I told him. He and his wife said that was a good price. He asked if I would take a lower price and I said I’d include all the furniture. Juan said he would like to buy it. I don’t know if he was joking or not, but if he has the money I would be surprise and of course, I would sell it to him.

But come to think about it he talked about a lawyer and I said I have one. He must have some money or someone gave him money or he inherited money because about two weeks ago he came over with a new gas weed cutter. Then today with a new lawnmower that he said cost $350. Later, when he came back with some diesel I asked him to buy (to get the leaves to burn); he rode back with a new bicycle. So maybe he has the money.

About 1pm Matt called to say that someone is outside our house that wants to take a look at it. The couple must have called the phone number in the newspaper and told Matt that they want to look at the house. it might have been one of the two people who called him right after the ad.

I showed the Ecuadorian couple in the house and garden. I also told them I’d be willing to accept a lower price that includes the furniture. I was told that they live in another town in this valley.

We’ll it’s been a busy day so far.
